This basic makeup kit for beginners is especially for those are diving into the world of makeup but don’t know where to start since the industry has been bursting out with new products everyday recently. We have come up with a small guide to all the makeup lovers out there who have no clue which products you should get in order to build your personal beginner kit.
Moisturizer and Primer must be the first in every basic makeup kit.
Every masterpiece begins with a great canvas. This is a must-have in your basic makeup kit. Prep your skin properly with moisturizer to make everything slide on easily and apply primer will help your makeup goes on smoothly and last all day.
Base – Foundation, Concealer and Powder
You can avoid the cake face with a thin layer of a light-weight, medium coverage foundation or tinted moisturizer just to even out the skin tone, and leave it to a more heavy duty concealer for concealing your imperfections. If you have large areas you need to cover, then I suggest using a more full coverage foundation on those specific areas and leave the rest minimum.
Blush and Highlighter
A healthy flush on the apple of the cheeks and a little bit of highlight for that youthful glow can really amp up your complexion, especially on those dull and dreadful mornings.
Now this part is really depends on your preference of how much makeup you want to wear. But you can always start off with a neutral palette and just focus on enhancing your eyes naturally. Select a palette with creams, taupes and browns consists of 4 to 6 pans so that you don’t have to fuss around trying to deal with too much color.
Eyeliner and Mascara
Eyeliner and Mascara must be in the basic makeup kit items list. Give your lashes good curl and apply a few coats of mascara can really open up your eyes and make you look more awake. Eyeliner is optional, you can leave it be or if you can’t go out without liner, just give yourself a little wing.
I give eyebrow a whole category because it’s very important, it can make or break the harmony on your face. The most common product for eyebrows is eyebrow pencil, but you can use eyebrow powder or just a neutral eyeshadow for a more natural finish. Make sure to have a spoolie brush close by to blend away any harsh lines.
Nude and Red Lipstick
This is a basic makeup kit hence it’s a good idea to stick with the basics when you first started off. These are going to be your go-to lip colors, they are universally flattering and can take you from dusk to dawn, appropriate for any occasions.
There are many starter makeup brush sets on the market, but if you want to buy them seprately, you can take a reference on those beginner sets and customize your own brush set. The Beauty Blender is also a fantastic tool, you can use it for foundation, powder and any cream products.
Other things you might need are Q-tips and makeup wipes for little makeup mistakes.
It is crucial that you remove your makeup properly at the end of the day, you don’t want to leave all those dirt, oil and other nasty residue on your face before you go to bed, it’s going to clog your pores and turn your face into a pimple mania the next day. I know removing your makeup can be a bit of a chore but try to make the process feel like more a relaxing and enjoyable ritual.
There are many ways you can remove your makeup but the two I recommend the most are using micellar water or cleasing oil since they really take all the makeup off.
If you’re wearing waterproof makeup on the eyes, I suggest using a seperate eye-makeup remover before you doing your face. Just hold the cotton pad on your eyes to disolve the makeup off, don’t rub because the skin in the eye area are very delicate.
After removing all your makeup, go in with your normal face cleanser, I really do believe in double cleansing to make sure my pores are completely clean.
So makeup novices have the idea of what they’ll need for a basic makeup kit. It’ll be easier to expand the kit once you get familiar to the makeup world as there are countless products.
